Ok, I know this is probably asking alot, but I just got Photoshop recently and can't do alot. I know what I want to do, but I don't know how to do it I have a list below and maybe some of you could help me? I actually got the Creative Suite, so if any of these things includes any of the other adobe software in that (illistrator, bridge, golive etc.) then I can still do it 1. I want to be able to take things out of an image that has only one layer. I know how to do it if it has two, but one I'm not sure of 2. I want to be able to change the color of something, but still keep the same background type thing. Like, lets say I wanted to change a cats eye color, but keep the eye looking the same otherwise. 3. I want to make things have a misty kind of glow. If you look down at the affiliates there is a Cosmic Cat Collection banner that says CCC and has a picture of a cat. Everything looks sort of light and misty there. That's all I can think of for now, but I might add more!! Thanks to anybody that helps!

1 - Use the lasso tool. Edit - Cut.
2 - Two options.
a) Use the brush tool. Select a color. Set the opacity to 50 or around there. Zoom in and brush over eye.
b) Select the area you want to fill with the Lasso tool. Edit > Fill. Select color, and choose the hue you want. Set opacity to around 40 or 50.
3) Image effects. You can apply some layer effects like outer glow, etc.

Also, the magic wand tool works nice for the first one.

Well, it depends. If you're taking out a cat, than no. If you're taking out sky, than yes. It uses a remote palet depending on the basic RGB values of the separate pixel colors in a certain area.

Use the path tool. It is in the third section of tools and it looks like a pen nib..it's also called the pen tool. Then go to the tool bar at the top that shows up for that tool The third button from the left which should read Path when you hover your mouse on it, click on it. Then click/trace around whatever you are trying to get out. (The clicking part can take some practice..it helps if you zoom in by pressing Ctrl + ) To finish the path, click on the first dot you created an it'll connect with the last dot...basically you are creating a connecting the dots thing around the image. Right click and select Make selection and it selects what you just traced. Shift + Ctrl + C copys it and you can paste it on whatever you like. To change the eye color, trace around the eye (zooming in helps big time here) and press Ctrl + U. This gives you a panel. Check the box "Colorize" or press "o" and you can adjust the sliders to change the color. As for the last one, use layers effect like autumn said.
(You can use Ctrl + U to quickly change the color of anything...)
Oh, and sorry for a long post...tis hard to explain... ;D

I have another one!
4. I want to make a border on one of my pictures. It doesn't have to be fancy, I actually just want a straight line border. How do I do that?

Also one thing about the mistifying thing. When I make it glow it doesn't do anything. Do I have to make a path around it using some tool and make that glow?

4 - Image > Resize > Canvas Size. Increase by the number of pixels you want as a border. Zoom in. Use pencil tool to draw the border.
About misty thing - put it on a new layer - use layer effects > outer glow > simple.
