The smell of smoke filled Summit's nostrils as he slipped over the burnt ground. Ash clung to his white pelt, staining it gray. His blue eyes drifted around the field, taking it all in. The smoky air made it hard for him to see but he could see enough. The destruction would take moons to heal.
There was something else that puzzled him. This was no lightning-born fire. Something else had started it. Something that wasn't in nature. He lifted his head and sniffed the air, trying to puzzle it out. His tail curled along his back and one paw raised in preparation to flee if whatever had done this came back.
((He's never seen twolegs.))

Adderpaw watched the figure of a cat move along the burned remains of what used to be a great field. Of course,he had never seen the feild, but he had heard stories. He had pictured it in his head so many times. Tall grasses swaying in the wind with if full of small rodents to catch.
This was only Adderpaw's second time out of camp. He had only just become an apprentice. He didn't know much about fighting or hunting, but he knew one thing. This was LightClan territory and the loners scent wasn't any of the other clan scents that he had smealt yesterday.
Adderpaw was crouching in the trees just off the edge of the burned feild. His tail lashed back and forth and his eyes were narrowed dangerously. Adderpaw knew he could fight, but didn't think that it would do anything against this larger cat. So he waited to see what the tom would do, all the while pretending that he was chasing him out with Darkpaw watching him do it.

The smell of ash and smoke filled Summit's nostrils so strongly he could sense little else. This entire field was a scorched wasteland. Then, very faintly, he smelled something else. It was only there for a second before he lost it, his fur pricking in anger as he tried to detect it again. Perhaps it was whatever had started the fire.
That thought made Summit want to leave immediately. Afterall, this place held nothing but death for anyone. The white tom turned to leave--when his blue eyes caught the flash of another pair of cat eyes in the shadows of the distant trees. Summit stared for a second, getting into a half crouch while raising his head. His eyes narrowed uncertainly before he turned to face the other cat. There were still a few good foxlengths inbetween them, but Summit knew that that could change in an instant. And so he decided to make the first move, stepping slowly towards the treeline towards the cat.

Adderpaw was surprised that the cat had detected him. If he had been out in the middle of the grounds he wouldn't have been able to smell a thing except the burnt grass. Of course, he was still new to this scent stuff though. He kept his gaze on the tom, but backed up into the trees further, hoping that he would disappear form the tom's sight. He then moved a little bit to his left, in hope that the tom thought he was still in the same place. When he least expected it, Adderpaw would rush out and tackle the tom, but that time wasn't now. Right now it was the time to wait.

Summit kept moving forward, though he lost sight of the cat. He wondered vaguely if it had been his immagination, if his desire to meet another of his own kind again was what drove him on. Summit pushed the thought away, going to investigate where he'd seen the cat eyes. But when he reached the line of trees the place was empty. Summit lashed his tail, curling it around one of his hind paws. His nose was still clogged by the smell of ash and he could sense nothing else. Summit's head lowered slightly, his eyes sullen in disappointment--how stupid he was to let his immagination take hold! Still...just to make sure....
"Hello?" he called out into the shadows, his voice strong.

Adderpaw narrowed his eyes and decided maybe he could give the cat a small warning before attacking. He said in his most evil and deep voice,
Don't tresspass. Get off LightClan territory.
He lashed his tail in the air and then moved the other way, past the spot where he was before. He had forgotten that the tom was probably looking there now. Even though he was deeper in the woods then the cat thought, he might have seen a glint of Adderpaw's tabby fur. Adderpaw scolded himself, but kept silent, waiting.

Summit's eyes snapped towards the sound of the cat's voice then followed his movement through the brush. He lost him again in the shadows, but he knew vaguely where he was. The white tom sat down calmly, though he towered high, head up and tail curled behind him--Summit's tail was a dancing work of art. "Lightclan? What be this? And why should I listen to what you say?"

Adderpaw decided it was no use trying to hide from this cat. If he wasn't going to ask questions, Adderpaw couldn't keep on switching places. He sighed and came out of the trees, a menacing look upon his face. His eyes glowed angrily and his upper lips was pulled back in a snarl.
You had better listen to me. I may be small, but I'm a LightClanner and I could tear you to shreds. And if I have to, I won't hesitate.
He lashed his tail across the air, trying to look as mean as possible. He knew that there was no way he could defeat this cat without getting mortally injured himself, but he wanted the tom to think otherwise. He just hoped it worked.

Summit chuckled softly, his blue eyes sparkling. He was surprised that this cat was so young. He claimed to be a 'Lightclanner' and acted like that cloaked him with some sort of authority. Summit's curiosity was pricked. "That so, young one? No doubt you could. You are fast on your feet, that much I can tell. Though I may have more experience. Perhaps we should battle now and settle this matter? But I ask you again, why?"

Adderpaw rolled his eyes. Was this cat stalling? He unsheathed his claws and dug them into the ground as he replied.
Your a dirty tresspasser. I'll give you a minute to get out of my sight.
His voice seemed to growl at the cat and he really was getting angry. Allthough Adderpaw knew that when had used to fight Darkpaw in the nursery he barely did any damage, he was an apprentice now and he had been training hard the first day and excersising alot. Hey, who knows, maybe he had gotten better since the last time he had attacked Darkpaw.
[ I think they should fight, and Summit can give Adderpaw a few deep scratches before he prances away from the area. Hehehe. I want Adderpaw to get hurt a bit so Oceansand will have some action ]

((Ok, sure! Summit doesn't like to fight but he does like to show off. XD ))
The white tom grinned, his head lowering so his eyes were level with Adderpaw's own even as he stood up in the half crouch. "Do you really think you could win such a battle?" Summit's tone was not challenging, merely calm and questioning. "I'd rather not fight, but I believe that I have done no wrong in coming here. One must fight for their beliefs, no? Come, then. Show me what happens to 'dirty tresspassers' like myself." Summit winked, gloading Adderpaw on without actually making himself feel like he was in the fault.

Adderpaw snarled and bunched his muscles for a leap. He had no real idea of what he was doing, he just knew that with his claws outstretched he might be able to hit the tom and hurt him. So, he blindly jumped into the air with his claws extended infront of him, hoping to strike the loner on the shoulder, or atleast somewhere.

Summit, light on his feet, scrambled backwards, narrowly avoiding Adderpaw's sharp claws. As soon as the apprentice had landed, however, Summit lunged at him, actually hoping to pin him down long enough to deliver a swift bite to the back of the neck.

Adderpaw was no match for the loners weight. He was thrown to the ground as easily as a mouse. He twisted and turned and felt the toms sharp claws dig into his fur. He hissed something, but it didn't turn out to sound like any words. He tried with all of his might to escape, but there was just no use. He kept fighting though. He wouldn't lose with a limp body.

Summit stayed firm over the apprentice, his eyes flashing as he bit hard at the apprentice's ear--something for him to remember him by--then jumped off him, prancing sideways. Summit turned back to Adderpaw, waiting for the apprentice's next move.
