Wasppaw walked briskly into the den. She looked around and frowned at the sight of it empty. It wasn't too much of a surprise though, figuring that she and Hookpaw were the only two apprentices at the time.
She walked over to her moss bed, which was located near the entrance, and prodded it with her nose. It was a dry and as rough as a thistle. She sighed, it might be nice to get some damp moss for once, maybe a small rain?
She cautiously lay down, feeling the pricks of the dry moss against her pelt. She shook her fur a little bit and then settled down.
The sun was starting to set outside, but Wasppaw wasn't really in the mood to sleep yet, so she waited. She waited to see if Hookpaw would enter. Maybe they could talk. Wasppaw hadn't really gotten to know her denmate yet. Maybe they could be friends? She shrugged and nestled tighter into her bed, getting comfortable for the wait.

Dragging his feet with weariness, Hookpaw entered the den. He'd been out hunting all day, and hadn't had much success; he wasn't very good at hunting yet. But the second he saw that there was another cat in the den, he raised his head and tail, pretending to be fresh and not tired one bit.
The apprentice padded over to his den and curled up in it, noticing the stiffness as well. "Huh, so much for coming home to a soft bed, eh?" he mewed, glancing over at Wasppaw. He hadn't ever talked to her really, but even Hookpaw couldn't deny that having a friend his own age would be great.

Wasppaw lifted her head as Hookpaw walked into the den. She smiled when she spoke and nodded.
Yeah, they're a bit stiff.
She stuck out her tongue as if in disgust. She pulled it back in and grinned. Hopefully Hookpaw didn't think she was to weird. She laughed a little and spoke.
So, has Darkheart taken you training yet? Silentwind and I just had our first session today. It was great!
Thoughts of the day flooded back into Wasppaw's mind. She remebered how frightened she had been at the begining and how comfortable she became at the end. She laughed inwardly at herself and flicked her ears happily.

Hookpaw looked at Wasppaw for a second, wondering if he should keep talking or just walk away. Finally he decided to keep up the conversation, and nodded in agreement. "Yah, I wish we could find some more comfortable moss," he agreed. At her question, he nodded again. "She took me out yesterday for fighting practice. It was...hard," he admitted. Then Hookpaw blinked in surprise; he never admitted that something was hard to anyone! Shaking his head, he decided it wouldn't hurt to tell his fellow apprentice. "She's a tough mentor, but it's helped a lot. What was your training session on?" He settled down a bit more comfortably in his nest and looked at her, glad to be able to talk to someone.

Wasppaw tilted her head, thinking back to earlier this morning. She remember being taught how to hunt. She wasn't very good, not very good at all. She hadn't caught one thing and she was told her crouch was all lopsided. She had guessed that it would get better over time though. When Wasppaw spoke, part of it was definalty lies.
I learned how to hunt and mastered the crouch. Although I didn't catch anything I was so close to a squirrel once I could almost feel its breath.
Wasppaw smiled at herself, glad she could so easily make up a short tale. She felt only the slightest bit bad about lying, but the feeling soon swept away, as if the things she said really did happen.

Hookpaw blinked in surprise; he wasn't nearly that good. He dare not show is surprise, though, and said cooly, "Well, today I was out hunting all day. I caught three mice and a thrush. I was about to catch a ground squirrel when this stupid hawk flew past us, and the squirrel ran away," he lied, naming the three mice and vole he'd seen in the fresh-kill pile just before he'd come in. Truly he'd only managed to catch one of the mice, but what was wrong with a lie every now and then? "I'll have fighting mastered by tomorrow," he boasted.

Wasppaw grinned. If only she knew what Silentwind was going to take her to do tomorrow! She could only dream. More hunting would be OK, but fighting would be tons better.
She realized something then though, didn't Hookpaw say she had taken him fighting yesterday? She smiled slyly and asked him a question.
So you didn't master it the first time you went out?
Wasppaw knew she was probably pushing her luck, but she liked being smart every once in awhile. Her eyes smiled along with her face and she flipped her tail back and forth, in a way she hoped Hookpaw would notice and get irritated by.

With a glare Hookpaw realized she'd caught him. "Huh, the second you decide to trust someone," he snapped, and stood and stalked out of the den, legs stiff. "I'll have you know I'll become a far better fighter than you could ever dream of being. Just you wait," he spat over his shoulder.

Wasppaw did feel bad now. She hadn't wanted him to walk away. She thought she'd clear it with a shake of the head, or a wave of the paw and they would continue getting to know eachother.
She couldn't help but feel a bit of satisfaction either though. Wasppaw had two sides, her sweet, nice side and her mean, cruel side. They popped out, changing her right when you least expected it.
Her tail flipped hard now and she looked at the entrance of the den, hoping that Hookpaw just might walk back in.

Birdpaw padded past Hookpaw, noticing that he seemed a little irritated. She was about to say something, but instead continued toward the apprentice den. As she arrived in at the enterance she looked around and saw that Wasppaw was curled up in her nest. Birdpaw slowly entered the den and went to the side of her own pile of dry moss. She prodded it with her forepaw before sighing. She spoke to the other apprentice, her voice soft and calm. "Do you think that we could find some more moss to put in here? I feel like I'm curled up on bark..." As she talked, she had curled swiftly into her nest.
