Boulderpaw dragged himself into the apprentices den. He stood in the entrance and stared in. There were numerous small moss beds lining the walls, but Boulderpaw had his gazed fixed on one. It was his, located near the back of the den in a corner. He had liked to stay hidden in the shadows when he first go here - he still does.
He seemed to be glaring at the bed; his eyes hard. There was something deep down in those eyes though; it was hurt. Boulderpaw knew that when he had been at the pound he wasn't wanted. Was that how it was here? It seemed as if some cats in the clan gave him odd looks, like he wasn't totally accepted. And now, after their training session today, Arcticstripe probably thinks he's no good and a whinner.
Boulderpaw sighed, maybe if he had waited only a little longer at the pound somebody would have taken him. He found himself wishing he could go back.
Boulderpaw finally realized he was blocking the way for any other apprentices. Even if there weren't any other cats might think him odd for standing in the entrance of the den for awhile. Boulderpaw struggled to bring his paws to the small cold moss bed. When he laid down it was soft, but nothing like a twoleg bed would be like.

Arcticstripe padded quietly into the den. She looked over how many empty beds their were in the apprentices den before spotting Boulderpaw in the corner, hidden in shadows. She crept over and gently prodded him with her paw.
Boulderpaw, wake up. We're going on a patrol.
Boulderpaw yawned and rolled onto his belly. He glanced up at Arcticstripe, her pelt well groomed while his was messy from his sleep.
Ok, just a sec.
He yawned once again while he stretched his long legs. His fur relaxed and he quickly gave himself a wash. Just a couple of licks here and there to tame the wild fur. He shook once and then said,
I'm ready. Where are we going?
Arcticstripe smiled, despite Boulderpaw's few licks he was still a mess. In some places his fur was sticking up in odd directions, and in others it was just plain messy.
We're heading to the borders just to make sure everything's safe.
Her voice had a bounce to it, like a small laugh that was hidden. She flicked her tail and left with Boulderpaw behind her.
